Description
Ballard Union Hill rifle was originally made by Marlin, circa 1880, then re-barreled by Axel Peterson of Denver, Colorado, at an unknown date. Rifle has a 32" No. 4 weight octagon barrel stamped "A.W. Peterson Denver, Colo." in 32-40 caliber with Wind gage front sight, Posa scope bases, and Vernier tang sight. Action is a Ballard Union Hill with floral and deer scene engraving in L.D. Nimschke style. Case-hardened action has Peterson Schuetzen double set triggers and custom finger spur loop lever. Rifle has a walnut pistol grip Schuetzen style checkered stock with cheekpiece and nickel plated Schuetzen butt plate. Stock is done in the Berg style. Plain walnut Schnabel forearm with Peterson style palm rest and was possibly put on by Peterson. Rifle comes with period breech seating tool. CALIBER: 32-40. S/N: 23383. FFL STATUS: Antique.
Condition
90% original blue fading to a plum patina. Case colors are fading to a silvery patina with some discoloration with engraving still very sharp. Original stock varnish with wear marks and small crack at tang and on forearm. Good bore and mechanics.
